Since 2001, Friends of Senator Soccer Association is proud to honor the heroes and legends of Davis & Elkins College Soccer.

The following is a listing of all individual player awards and honors garnered by the men and women who have represented D&E on and off the pitch. All of the individuals listed below are distinguished in their own special way, and are recognizably, true pioneers of D&E Soccer.

Defenders Joe Carroll and Ed Jones join forward Francois Muyumba on the WVIAC All-Conference Team.

Class of 1968
Under the leadership of Dr. Greg Myers, the Senators capture the first of two NAIA National Championships by defeating Quincy College, 2-1, in five, yes 5 overtimes!

Joe Donnelly, Ekong Etutnwa, Rildo Ferreira, and William Smyth are named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team. Smyth is named MVP of the 1968 NAIA National Championship Finals. Donnelly, Etuknwa and Ferreira, Nuttall, and Smyth are consensus All-WVIAC First Team selections.

Class of 1969
Once again, the Senators reach the finals of the NAIA National Championships under Myers' leadership. The lads fall to Eastern Illinois, 2-0, in the championship match.

The Senators win their first WVIAC Championship. Ferreira, Bill Nuttall, Smyth, and Mike Udofia are named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team. Smyth is named MVP of the 1969 NAIA National Championship Finals. Etutnwa, defender Nils Heinke, and Udofia are named to the WVIAC All-WVIAC First Team. Ferreira is honored by the WVIAC as its PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

Class of 1970
D&E returns to finals of the NAIA National Championships and wins their second NAIA title by defeating arch nemesis, Quincy College, 2-0. The team also repeats as WVIAC Champion.

Nils Heinke, Nuttall, Smyth, and Udofia are named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team. Goalkeeper Nuttall is named MVP of the 1970 NAIA National Championship Finals. Joining Nuttall on the All-WVIAC Team are forward Kevin Butler, Donnelly, Heinke, and Smyth, who is also honored as the WVIAC's PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

Class of 1971
D&E returns to the NAIA Naitonal Championship Final only to lose 1-0 to arch-nemesis, Quincy College.

Udofia is named Outstanding Performer of the 1971 NAIA National Tournament.
Scottish midfielder William Smyth and Udofia are named to the 1971 NAIA All-Tournament Team. D&E captures its third-straight WVIAC Championship. The Senators place a total of six players on the WVIAC First Team: Etutnwa, Heinke, Miller, Pigan, Smyth, and Udofia. Smyth is a repeat honoree as the WVIAC's PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

Class of 1972
Irish defender Mickey Whelan is named Outstanding Performer and MVP of the 1972 NAIA National Tournament. Westmont College defeats the Senators, 2-1, in the championship match of the 1972 NAIA Final.

Jorge Bergen and Whelan are named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team. Bergen, forwards Alejandro Pagliai, Donny Spahr, Hans Wango, and defender Whelan are named to the WVIAC Conference Team.

Class of 1973
For the second straight year, Whelan is named Outstanding Performer and MVP of the 1973 NAIA National Tournament. He leads the team to a third place finish in the NAIA Finals as D&E defeats Erskine, 4-1.

Bergen, Sonny Ideozu, and Whelan are all named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team. Bergen, goalkeeper Conn Davis, midfielder Tim Murphy, Pagliai, and defender Lenny Williams are named to the WVIAC Conference Team.

Class of 1974
D&E advances to the final of the 1974 NAIA National Championship only to come up short against nemesis, Quincy College.

Swedish forward Ove Johansson, American midfielder Bill Murphy, and Jamaican forward Len Williams are named to the 1974 NAIA All-Tournament Team and honored as Outstanding Performers of the tournament. Pagliai is honored by the WVIAC as the PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

Jamaican midfielder, Karl "Digger" Largie and American midfielder Mike Shue are appointed to the 1975 NAIA All-American Second Team.

1976 Legends

Class of 1976
Largie and Trinidadian midfielder Mike Grayson are appointed to the 1976 NAIA All-American First Team. Largie is honored as the WVIAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR. In addition, American midfielder Tim Murphy is named to the NAIA All-American First Team. Coach Fred Schmalz is honored by the WVIAC as COACH OF THE YEAR for his amazing leadership of the Senators' fourth-place finish at the 1976 NAIA National Tournament.

1977 Team

Class of 1977
Grayson, Largie, Jamaican defender Roderick O'Savio, and Americans Mike Reitz ad Dave Ruzicka are appointed to the 1977 NAIA All-Tournament Team. In addition, Grayson and Largie are named to the NAIA All-American First Team. O'Savio is appointed to the NAIA All-American Second Team. Largie is named the WVIAC's PLAYER OF THE YEAR, the second of three WVIAC honors to come for the Jamaican playmaker. D&E captures third place in the 1977 NAIA National Tournament with a 2-0 victory over Erskine.

Class of 1978
Largie, O'Savio, and Irish defender Mick Riordan are appointed to the 1978 NAIA All-Tournament Team. In addition, Trinidadian midfielder Mike Grayson and O'Savio are named to the NAIA All-American First Team. Largie is honored by the WVIAC as its PLAYER OF THE YEAR, and is later appointed to the NAIA All-American Second Team. Rokhurst College of Missouri defeats D&E, 1-0, to capture third-place in the 1978 NAIA National Finals.

Class of 1979
Grayson and Riordan are named to the NAIA All-American First Team. Grayson is selected as the WVIAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

Class of 1980
Riordan is honored by the WVIAC as its PLAYER OF THE YEAR and is later named to the NAIA All-American First Team. Coach Nils Heinke is honored by the WVIAC as its COACH OF THE YEAR. Heinke leads the Senators to a third place finish in the 1980 NAIA National Finals as the team defeats University of Alabama-Huntsville, 3-2.

Class of 1981
Trinidadian midfielder Marlon Charles is named to the NAIA All-American Second Team.

Class of 1982
American defender Glenn Davis is named to the NAIA All-American First Team. Davis, Pronk, and Walkes are named to the WVIAC's Conference Team.

Class of 1983
English defender Ian MacDonald is the Senators' lone representative on the WVIAC All-Conference First Team.

Class of 1984
Irish forward David Archibold, Swedish midfielders Jan Eriksson and Anders Larson, and Ian MacDonald are named to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. Eriksson is later named to the NCAA Division II All-America First Team. Coach Nils Heinke wins his second WVIAC COACH OF THE YEAR award.

Class of 1985
Archibold, Swedish midfielder Anders Larson, MacDonald, Dutch forward Nico Pronk, and American goalkeeper Dave Smart are named to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. MacDonald is honored as the WVIAC Conference Player of the Year, and awarded First Team All-American Honors by the NCAA.

Class of 1986
Once again Archibold and Larson are named to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team.

Class of 1987
Irishmen Paul Grimes and David Archibold are named to the WVIAC's First Team.

Class of 1988
Irish defender Paul Grimes, Canadian forward Adam Piotrowski and American midfielder Scott "Stoney" Stonesifer are named to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. D&E finishes second in the WVIAC with a record of 1-1-1.

Class of 1989
Irish forward Howie King and Trinidadian midfielder Anthony Sherwood named to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. Kevin MacGabhann and Vincent Rooney named to the WVIAC All-Conference Second Team. Sherwood is later named to the NSCAA All-South Regional and NCAA All-American First Team. D&E finishes fourth in the WVIAC with a record of 2-2 and an overall record of 10-6-2.

Class of 1990
American defender Bob Chenard and Canadian midfielder Mike Hasiuk are named to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. Duane Dyer, Jason Gatt, Kevin MacGabhann and Tae Rhim are named to the WVIAC All-Conference Second Team. D&E finishes fifth in the WVIAC with a record of 2-3-1 and an overall record of 9-8-1.

Class of 1991
Duane Dyer, Jason Gatt, Mike Hasiuk and Kevin MacGabhann named to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. Sheldon Hilaire named to the WVIAC All-Conference Second Team. Dyer and Hasiuk named to the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Regional Team. D&E finishes fifth in the WVIAC with a record of 2-4 and an overall record of 8-9-1.

Class of 1992
Hasiuk and Kevin MacGabhann named to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. Sheldon Hilaire, Doug Homer and Jon Voorheis named to the WVIAC All-Conference Second Team. Gatt and Hasiuk named to the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Regional Team. Homer and MacGabhann named to the adidas Academic All-American Team. D&E finishes fifth in the WVIAC with a record of 2-3 and an overall record of 10-6-1.

Class of 1993
Gatt and Hasiuk are named to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. Ashley Bennett, Matt Bittner, Duane Dyer, Dwight Findlay, Sheldon Hilaire, and Jon Voorheis named to the WVIAC All-Conference Second Team. Gatt and Hasiuk named to the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Regional Team. D&E finishes sixth in the WVIAC with a record of 2-3-1 and an overall record of 12-5-1.

Class of 1994
Trinidadian forward Jason Gatt and Canadian midfielder Mike Hasiuk are selected to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. D&E finishes fourth in the WVIAC with a record of 3-3-1 and an overall record of 13-5-1.

Class of 1995
Trinidadian forward Prior Jones and American midfielder Mike Lally are selected to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. D&E finishes sixth in the WVIAC with a record of 1-4-1.

Class of 1996
Greek forward Stavros Manolakos is selected to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. D&E finishes fifth in the WVIAC with a record of 2-4.

Class of 1997
Manolakos and Welsh defender Tommy Keeling are selected to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. D&E finishes sixth in the WVIAC with a record of 3-4.

Class of 1998
Manolakos and American midfielder Mike Lally are selected to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. D&E finishes fifth in the WVIAC with a record of 3-2-2.

Class of 1999
D&E finishes last in the WVIAC.

Class of 2000
D&E finishes last in the WVIAC.

Class of 2001
D&E finishes seventh in the WVIAC with a record of 2-5.

Class of 2002
D&E finishes seventh in the WVIAC with a record of 1-7.

Class of 2003
D&E finishes seventh in the WVIAC with a record of 1-6.

Class of 2004
Costa Rican forward Jose Maria Cantillo and Trinidadian midfielder Makesi Bostic are selected to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. Bostic is later selected as the WVIAC Freshman of the Year. D&E finishes seventh in the WVIAC with a record of 1-5-1.

Class of 2005
Costa Rican forward Jose Maria Cantillo, American midfielder Matt Wood and Trinidadian midfielder Makesi Bostic are selected to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. D&E finishes fifth in the WVIAC with a record of 3-3-1.

Costa Rican forward Jose Maria Cantillo and Trinidadian midfielder Makesi Bostic are selected to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. Canadians Michael Knox and Donnie MacGregor are named to the WVIAC All-Conference Second Team while Cole Johnson and Brett Keatley are recognized as members of the WVIAC Honorable Mention squad. D&E finishes fifth in the WVIAC with a record of 3-2-2.

WVIAC REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONS

D&E concludes the fall season with a remarkable 17-5 final record and an 8-1 posting in the WVIAC. American defender Aaron Edings and goalkeeper Tim O'Toole, English defender Matt Fannon, Ghanian midfielder Daniel Kwafo and Trinidadian forward Makesi Bostic are all selected to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team. Bolivian forward Mikey Perez, Canadian forward Michael Knox and U.S. defender Brett Keatley and midfielder Mark Wood are named to the WVIAC All-Conference Second Team. Newcomer James Kpainay is recognized as on the WVIAC Honorable Mention squad.

Standouts Bostic, Fannon and O'Toole are named to the Daktronics All-Appalachian Region First Team, while Bostic is recognized as an Honorable Mention All-American in his final campaign.

Head Coach Mark Stollsteimer wins his first WVIAC Coach of the Year honors for his efforts in leading D&E to its first WVIAC Regular Season Championship since 1984.

2008 WVIAC TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINALISTS

Class of 2008
SENATORS FALL TO A-B IN SEMIS

D&E returned to the national rankings for the first time in over a decade, reaching as high as 11th at mid-season, only to tumble in the last half of the season due to injuries and inconsistency. The fighting Sens conclude the fall '08 season with a 12-7-3 final record and an 6-2-2 posting in the WVIAC. Coach Mark Stollsteimer welcomed former D&E standouts Cole Johnson and Michael Knox as assistants to his efforts in their first seasons as collegiate coaches. On the pitch, the team was led by senior co-captains Matt Fannon and Mark Wood. Senior defender Aaron Edings and Fannon and junior midfielder Daniel Kwafo were selected to the WVIAC All-Conference First Team at the conclusion of the regular season. Junior 'keeper Tim O'Toole, junior defender James Kpainay and senior midfielder Wood were named to the WVIAC All-Conference Second Team, while junior defender Brett Keatley is recognized on the WVIAC Honorable Mention squad.

Standouts Kpainay and Kwafo are named to the Daktronics All-Appalachian Region Second Team, while senior defender Fannon netted a team-high seven goals, three of which were game-winners, in his final campaign for the Scarlet and White. Fellow senior Wood led the team in points (50) and assists (6). Among teams in the WVIAC, D&E was among the elite in many statistical categories, including assists (1.45, 1st), corner kicks (5.73, 1st), goals against (1.25, 3rd), goals scored (1.86, 2nd), points (5.18, 2nd) and shutouts (9, 2nd). Kpainay led the WVIAC in shots with 62 over 22 matches while O'Toole was second in goals against (1.13) and third in shutouts with 7, respectively.
