Robert Wolf('71) He sent the following account of his years in Elkins with the lads:
"I still vividly remember sitting by myself on the grandstand after completing my first season 3w-8l. Greg Myers walked up, sat next to me for a few minutes and said, 'Don't worry, next year will be different we will have players to help you. We will be a much better team next year. I promise you.'
The next three years we won two NAIA championships and one runner up...what a speech. Playing Howard U. the year they won NCAA championship at Howard to a 0-0 tie...what a game. The year of our first championship we ate at the same restaurant in Quincy Il. For each meal. Every meal was the same for the week...typical Greg Myers. The owner was very friendly and seemed very happy to see us win our first game and move to the winners bracket. Low and behold we won our second game 1-0 over New Paltz from New York. Now we were headed to the championship game against the home town team, Quincy, who two weeks earlier had tied St. Louis. No one gave us a chance. The radio and newspapers had us losing 7-0. We won 3-2 in ot to every ones surprise but ours. On our way back to the motel we passed the restaurant we had been eating at and out front was a huge banner that read: 'WE FEED THE CHAMPIONS DAVIS AND ELKINS COLLEGE.' I guess someone believed in us besides ourselves after all."
Bob currently resides in Stuart, FL and is the chief purchaser for Hobe Sound Lumber Company.
