Amidst an unprecedented string of beautiful, spring-like weather in Appalachia, more than 50 former D&E soccer players and their families descended on the campus of their alma mater to pay tribute to a real Senator legend.
Dr. Thomas "Fuzzy" Martin, Class of '71, received the 2007 FOSS Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to the sport of soccer. Martin was joined by members of the 1968 and 1970 NAIA National Championship squads, including Dr. Greg Myers, Head Coach of both championship teams, teammates Dave Blasczak, Larry Hunt, Don McMahon, Bill Miller, Bob Nicol, Charlie Straw, Hank Steinbrecher and Bob Wolf. Congratulations Fuzzy!

The annual FOSS A.C.E. Awards were presented by Mark Stollsteimer, Men's Coach, and Mat Santoro, Women's Coach, to Valerie Coleman and Brett Keatley, members of the Men and Women's Soccer Teams who have excelled on and off the soccer field during the 2006-07 seasons. Previous inductees have included Adelina Abreu and Travis Parkinson, among others. The 2006 Attitude, Commitment, and Excellence (A.C.E.) Awards were presented to Michael Knox and Laura Bonser of the Davis & Elkins College Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams.
In addition to honoring Martin and this year's A.C.E. Award recipients, FOSS also inducted graduating seniors from the Class of 2007 that performed regularly on the pitch for D&E over the past four years. Congratulations to Jose Maria Cantillo, Kara Dragan, Donald MacGregor and Robert Ryan.

The D&E women followed with an impressive outing against WVIAC leader, West Virginia Wesleyan College, but could not find the back of the net despite repeated attempts by the team throughout the day. Wesleyan hung on to defeat D&E, 1-0, on a first half goal that found its way into the net off a deflection following a clearing attempt.
Later on Saturday, FOSS members joined President Tom Mann and representatives of the D&E Board of Trustees, along with Ralph Hill, Athletic Director, for the grand opening and dedication of the new gymnasium. What an event it was! Visit www.davisandelkins.edu for a complete recap on the dedication ceremony.
Mark your calendars now for the 2008 FOSS Reunion in Elkins: April 11-13, 2008!
